Book Review: The Reckoning

Title: The Reckoning

Author: Kelley Armstrong

Series: The Darkest Powers Series

Genre: YA Fantasy

Synopsis: My name is Chloe Saunders. I'm fifteen, and I would love to be normal. But normal is one thing I'm not. For one thing, I'm having these feelings for a certain antisocial werewolf and his sweet-tempered brother—who just happens to be a sorcerer—but, between you and me, I'm leaning toward the werewolf. Not normal. My friends and I are also on the run from an evil corporation that wants to get rid of us—permanently. Definitely not normal. And finally, I'm a genetically altered necro-mancer who can raise the dead, rotting corpses and all, without even trying. As far away from normal as it gets.

Overall Review: Good Bad or Ugly

As the final book in the Darkest Powers Trilogy it was everything it needed to be. In the first book of the series, The Summoning, I was not a fan of Chloe Saunders, but as we got to know her I began to love her. The best thing about the trilogy is that nothing is as it seems-a must for any good thriller. And in The Reckoning no one is as they seem, much to the characters dismay. The Chloe, Derek and Simon love triangle is predictably resolved but still pleasing. Since I was sad to see the series end, I was happy to see that though Armstrong wraps the series up in a satisfying manner, she left room for a continuation or a spin-off. The Reckoning is my favorite of the series and it is a chilling read for all ages.
